This is a riker case with three Civil War bullets and a brief regimental history of the 19th Tennessee Infantry Regiment, Confederate States Army. The three bullets, one a .58 caliber Williams cleaner, one a .577 caliber Enfield and the other a .69 caliber round ball, were recovered in Franklin, Tennessee, Nashville, Tennessee and Murfreesboro, Tennessee respectively. The parchment style paper has been labeled "The 19th Tennessee Infantry Regiment", along with the identification of each bullet, a brief regimental history and battles and campaigns that the regiment took part in. The 19th Tennessee was one of only a handful of Confederate regiments formed from east Tennessee counties. It was mustered in to the Confederate Army in the spring of 1861 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The 19th fought in every major battle that the Army of Tennessee was engaged, except for the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky. When the war began the 19th numbered 1000 men strong, when the unit was surrendered in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1865 only 78 men remained. The Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle musket, firing the .577 caliber round, and the US Model 1842 Springfield and Harper's Ferry musket, firing the .69 caliber round ball, were two of the principal weapons used by the Army of the Tennessee. The case measures 12 1/4" wide and 8 1/4" high. It has been provisioned on the back to hang from two nails or screws. This will make an inexpensive birthday or Christmas present for the Civil War collector in the family.
