This is a riker case with four Civil War bullets and a depiction of Confederate Infantry charging Union positions at the Battle of Gettysburg. There is an image of Brigadier General James J. Archer, a brief biography of him, and a list of major battles he fought in during the war. Archer commanded a brigade made up of the 5th Battalion and 13th Alabama Infantry Regiment, along with the 1st, 7th and 14th Tennessee Infantry Regiments. Initially the brigade was part of Major General A.P. Hill's famous "Light Division" of Stonewall Jackson's Corps. At Gettysburg Archer's brigade was under the command of Major General Henry Heth. Archer's health was not good and led to his capture at Gettysburg, the first Confederate General officer to be captured since Lee took command of the Army of Northern Virginia. General Archer was exchanged as a prisoner of war in the summer of 1864 and rejoined his old brigade at Petersburg, Virginia. His health was still very bad, and he finally collapsed after the Battle of Peeble's Farm. He died in Richmond, Virginia on 24 October, 1864 and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery. The four bullets, one a .58 caliber Minie recovered at Fredericksburg, Virginia, one a .58 caliber Gardner recovered at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, one a Richmond Sharps bullet recovered in Petersburg, Virginia and the other a .69 caliber ball recovered in Chancellorsville, Virginia. The parchment style paper has been labeled "General James J. Archer~ C.S.A.", along with the identification of each bullet, the dates of Archer's birth and death and the battles he fought in. The case measures 12 1/4" wide and 8 1/4" high. It has been provisioned on the back to hang from two nails or screws. This will make an inexpensive birthday or Christmas present for the Civil War collector in the family.
