Civil War Riker Case The Springfield Musket

This is a riker case with five Civil War bullets, a Springfield bayonet scabbard tip and a depiction of Union Infantry moving in a line of battle towards an unseen foe. The Springfield rifle musket was the most widely used long arm of the Union Army during the Civil War. The Springfield was produced in two variations, the Model 1861 and the improved Model 1863. There were over one million of these long arms produced between 1861 and 1873. It weighed nine pounds and was 56" in length. The five bullets, one a .58 caliber Minie, one a .54 caliber ball, one a .58 cleaner, one a .54 caliber Minie and one a .58 caliber swagged base. The bayonet scabbard tip, along with all the bullets, were recovered in Nashville and other parts of Middle Tennessee. The parchment style paper has been labeled "The Springfield Musket", along with the identification of each bullet and the bayonet scabbard tip. The case measures 12 1/4" wide and 8 1/4" high. It has been provisioned on the back to hang from two nails or screws. This will make an inexpensive birthday or Christmas present for the Civil War collector in the family.
