Civil War Riker Case The Battle of Nashville Tennessee

This is a riker case with three Civil War bullets, a depiction of the Union lines at Nashville and an image of Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest. The three bullets, one a shot bullet, one a .577 caliber Enfield and the other a .69 caliber round ball, were recovered at Nashville, Tennessee. The parchment style paper has been labeled "The Battle of Nashville, Tennessee", along with the identification of each bullet and a brief summary on the Battle of Nashville. The Battle of Nashville was fought on 15 and 16 December, 1864. Despite suffering heavy losses at Franklin. Lieutenant General Hood marched the Army of Tennessee to attack the Union army of 55,000 men at Nashville commanded by Major General George Thomas. Thomas attacked Confederate positions on the 15th of December and overwhelmed the redoubts. That night Hood retreated 2 miles south with the Union army attacking the next afternoon. The Union broke the Confederate left, forcing the Confederates to retreat. Major General Forrest was responsible for the rear guard actions as Hood lead the remnants of the virtually destroyed Army of Tennessee away from Nashville. The case measures 12 1/4" wide and 8 1/4" high. It has been provisioned on the back to hang from two nails or screws. This will make an inexpensive birthday or Christmas present for the Civil War collector in the family.
