This is a German "Feldbluse", or field tunic from World War II. The combat uniform of the German Army used during WWII began in 1933. Over a period of 10 years it underwent 10 modifications, or alterations. The first being the adoption of the four pocket wool tunic in April, 1933. The last change was the adoption of a new style uniform in October, 1944. This field gray wool tunic is a 1936 version. The tunic is in very good condition, having no moth damage, rips, tears, holes or stains. This is a smaller tunic as indicated by the sizes ink stamped by the manufacturer on the left side of the lining. The top left stamp of 39 represents the length of the tunic back. A 42 stamp represents the collar size ,the chest size is 90, 65 the overall tunic length, and 59 the sleeve length. The E39 indicates the Erfurt depot received this tunic in 1939. Several modifications identify this tunic as a 1936 "model". The dark bluish green collar, absence of waist ties, modified lining to reinforce the back and torso, and a button added for the first aid pouch are the major ones. The pink collar insignia is that designated for armored, anti tank and reconnaissance units. The shoulder boards have the pink piping of the German armored, anti tank and recon units as well. The five front buttons, as well as the four pocket buttons are pebbled nickel and back marked N&H. The two shoulder strap buttons are back marked EXTRA FEIN and are also the pebbled nickel. The breast eagle is the earlier design being sewn in silver gray on a bluish green backing. The tunic came with an Close Combat Clasp in silver class and a Panzer Assualt Badge in silver as well. The Close Combat Clasp is back marked FEC.W.E.PEEKHAUS/BERLIN, the Panzer Assualt Badge is unmarked. Also included is the first aid bandage in it's original 1934 marked wrapper! This is a fine example of a German combat tunic used during World War II.
