Model 1840 Musicians Sword
Item #: WR228
This is a Model 1840 Musicians Sword manufactured by Horstmann's of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The sword measures 34" overall, with a blade measuring 28". The blade is of a plain, straight, single edge design. The once bright blade has now turned a dull gray. There is no pitting present on the blade, the edge has no nicks or dings. On the obverse ricasso is the tombstone hallmark associated with Emerson and Silver made blades. The reverse is stamped HORSTMANN'S/PHILa. Part of and assembly number is showing on the blade, before it disappears under the hilt. The hilt is of cast brass and has turned a deep bronze patina, with just hints of the original gilt showing here and there. The assembly number of 25 has been stamped into the hilt just above the spine of the blade. The blade remains as tight to the hilt as the day it was made. This musician's sword is an honest example of pre Civil War sword that has seen plenty of use. It does not have a scabbard to accompany it.
