This is a US Model 1938 map case used during World War II. The OD#7 canvas case measures approximately 11" high and 9" wide. This one appears to be in unissued condition, at most a lightly used one. All the stitching is strong and unbroken, no stains, cuts or rips in the canvas. This M1938 map case was made for the Marine Corps by the Hamel Company and dated 1944. The carrying strap is missing, as well as the celluloid map overlay. The klikit snaps on the front of the case both work perfectly and retain 95% of the original blacking. A small pocket with provisions for pens and pencils is sewn to the outer pocket, covered by the flap of the case. The letters U.S.M.C. are stenciled on the inside of the outer flap. The case is divided into three inner pockets. Two spring hooks are attached to the back of the case, used to attach the carrying sling to. This is a very nice example of a Pacific theater used Model 1938 map case used by the Marine Corps.
