This is an original article printed by Harper's Pictorial History Of The Civil War about the fall of Norfolk, Virginia. The article is dated May, 1862 and is in excellent condition. It measures 11" wide and is 16" tall. The one page section of the article is mounted on a piece of cardboard and is protected by shrink wrap. This one page from the Harper's Weekly looks just the way it did when it was printed 157 years ago. There are no smudges, stains, rips, tears, creases or folds on the page. The type printed article is perfectly legible, and describes the capture and subsequent destruction of the Gosport Navy Yard in Norfolk. Included in the destruction of navy yard was the Confederate iron clad Virginia. There are five different drawings on the page, all of which have been hand colored. The article looks like it could have been printed yesterday! If you collect Civil War documents this piece will fit right in!
