This is an illustrated page from the article printed by Harper's Weekly covering America's first six Supreme Court Chief Justices. The first Chief Justice was John Jay, who held that position from 1789 - 1795. The second Chief Justice, not pictured, was John Rutledge, who held the position from from 1790 - 1791. The third Chief Justice was Oliver Ellsworth, who held the position from 1796 - 1800. The fourth Chief Justice was John Marshall, who held the position from 1801 - 1835. The fifth Chief Justice was Roger Taney, who held the position from 1835 - 1864. The sixth Chief Justice was Salmon P. Chase, who held the position from 1864 - 1873. The illustration measures 9 3/4" wide and 11 1/4" tall. The one page section of the article is mounted on a piece of cardboard and is protected by shrink wrap. This one page from the Harper's Weekly looks just the way it did when it was printed years ago. There are no smudges, stains, rips, tears, creases or folds on the page. The black and white illustration shows five of the nations first six Supreme Court Justices. If you collect early American political or legal documents this piece will fit right in!
