This is a Model 1860 Colt Army cap and ball revolver. The serial number 71822 puts this one in the production year of 1862. There is a single inspector's cartouche on the left grip, the letters EMC within a rectangular block. They stand for E.M. Camp, a Colt Model 1860 inspector from 1860 - 1863. The 8" barrel has very strong rifling and a bright clean bore. The single line ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA address is clearly visible. The Colt patent mark is still very crisp and legible, as is the cylinder scene! You can still read the "PAT SEPT 10th 1855" below the serial number on the cylinder, not bad for a 159 year old gun! The sub inspectors stamp of D is found on the barrel and cylinder, along with the letter H stamped on the back strap. The serial numbers are very crisp and match, with the exception of the replacement wedge. The gun has an overall medium brown patina. The mechanics of this old Colt work perfectly. The walnut grips have the majority of the original varnish remaining, but it's worn pretty thin. The usual small bumps and dings can be seen on the sides of the grips. They fit the gun like a glove, and have no repairs. This is a solid gun that has some great eye appeal. It's obvious that this one probably rode with the wrong side, but it will still make a great addition to your Civil War weapons collection, or your Colt revolver collection.
