This is a hat badge from the Gordon Military College from the 1930's. The badge was made by the N.S. Meyer Company of New York. Meyer made military insignia from his New York based business beginning in 1906 to 2000, when the company was purchased by Vanguard, another military goods supplier. The Gordon Military College was originally founded in 1852 as the Male and Female Seminary. It was renamed the Gordon Institute in 1872 in honor of Confederate General John B. Gordon. The school has evolved over the years and has been renamed several times. From the mid 1930's though 1972 it was known as the Gordon Military College. Located in Barnesville, Georgia, the school is currently known as the Gordon State College. The badge, worn by corp of cadet members, bears the Georgia state seal, with the name GORDON appearing around the perimeter of the dome. The brass has aged well, achieving a chocolate brown patina. There is one small blemish at the very top of the badge, along the letters R, D and O. If you have a military school badge collection, or have a graduate from the Gordon Military College in the family, this will make the perfect gift for them!
