This is a Model 1849 Colt Pocket cap and ball revolver. The serial number 151550 puts this one in the production year of 1859. The 4" barrel has very strong rifling and a bright clean bore. The two line ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT/NEW YORK CITY stamp is clearly visible. The Colt patent mark is still very crisp and legible, as is the cylinder scene! It looks like the stage coach hold up is actually taking place it's so crisp and clear! The sub inspectors stamps of K and M are found on the trigger guard, and the number 2 on the right side of the barrel. The serial numbers are very crisp and match, even that pesky wedge. The gun has some case color and a decent amount of original bluing showing. The mechanics of this old Colt work perfectly. The majority of the original silver wash remains on the trigger guard and back strap. This is a pretty rare variation of the Model 1849 Colt, with only 1450 having an iron back strap and small trigger guard. The walnut grips have the majority of the original varnish remaining, with a couple of small bumps and dings on the sides of the grips. They fit the gun like a glove, are not cartouched and have no repairs. This is a beautiful gun that could have fought on either side of the war of northern aggression. Regardless of which side it resided with, this one will make a great addition to your Civil War weapons collection, or your Colt revolver collection.
