This is a Model 1943 enlisted mans Eisenhower jacket from the Korean War era. This style of jacket became popularly known as the Eisenhower, or "Ike" jacket during World War II. The 1943 and 1946 versions of the jacket were both worn during and slightly after the Korean War. The M1950 differs slightly from the WWII era Ike jacket. The sleeves do not have cuffs, the throat closure tab was deleted, the adjustable buckle waist straps were replaced with a single button, one inner pocket was deleted, the front pockets were changed from expandable to non expandable pleats and removing the pocket buttons in favor of two small ball and socket snaps in each corner of the pocket flap. This jacket has been modified to correspond to some of the M1950 features. While it still has the adjustable cuffs and waist straps, the front pockets have been sewn down. Due to that fact the quartermaster tag is not accessible. A small tag sewn into the collar shows this one to be a size 38R. The chevrons are of the older 3" stripes that were worn during WWII, and represent the rank of Staff Sergeant. The bullion made unit patch on the left sleeve is of the 2nd Infantry Division. This division has seen service from WWI through current day. During the Korean War the division fought in such notable battles as the Battle of Pusan Perimeter, Battle of the Ch'ongch'on River, the First and Second Battles of Wonju, the Battle of Chipyong-ni, the Battle of Bloody Ridge and the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge. The 2nd Division had 18 Medal of Honor recipients during the Korean War, and suffered 4938 killed, 16166 wounded and 1057 soldiers missing in action. The Staff Sergeant of the 2nd Division wears the collar brass of the Infantry. His ribbons include the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three campaign stars and the United Nations Korea Service Medal. The Good Conduct Medal is worn by itself and is pinned on the uniform. The other three ribbons are on a bar, and I believe that they are Korean War period. I believe that the Combat Infantryman Badge pinned above the ribbons is post Korean War, and is not marked Sterling on the reverse. Over the right pocket a Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf cluster is worn. The 23rd Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Division was awarded two Presidential Unit Citations for actions occurring during the Korean War. I cannot determine if this jacket is identified or not without damaging the stitching holding the pocket flaps down. It seems a bit strange that a Staff Sergeant would not have any service stripes, and especially no overseas (combat) stripes. This is a nice example of what a Korean War Non Commissioned Officer would have worn.
