This is a Smith and Wesson Model #1 1/2 2nd issue .32 caliber revolver. Approximately 100,700 of these revolvers were manufactured by Smith & Wesson between 1868 and 1875. The serial # of 114280 puts this one being manufactured during the 1873-1874 period. The serial number stamped on the inside of the right grip matches that on the bottom of the back strap. This little pocket pistol measures 7 3/4" in overall length, with a barrel length of 3 1/2". The top of the barrel is stamped "Smith and Wesson Springfield Mass PAT APR 3 55 JUL 5 59 & NOV 21 66". The sights are fixed. This 5 shot revolver has a spur trigger. The fluted cylinder is not stamped. The gun was originally blued, but the majority of the bluing has worn off. The only bluing remaining is found on the back side of the spur trigger, and a small trace on the left of the frame at the trigger pin. The cylinder and barrel now display a silverish/gray patina. The rosewood grips are in good condition with no cracks. The mechanics of this little firearm operate normally. These small pistols were popular with gamblers, soldiers, outlaws and most everybody else who was in the Wild West during the Indian Wars period.
