This is a US Model 1916 holster made for the Colt Model 1911A1 pistol used during World War II. This russet leather holster is in very good issued condition. It was manufactured by SEARS, the Sears Saddlery Company of Davenport, Iowa. The SEARS stamp and date of 1942 are very visible. All stitching, rivets and closure stud are extremely tight and secure to the holster. The eyelet at the toe of the holster is present, but does not have the leather "tie down" that came with the holster. None of the brass rivets, eyelet or closure stud have verdigris showing. The bail that is used to attach the holster to a web belt shows almost no wear. The flap is embossed with a US within an oval. The interior of the holster shows almost no wear at all. The russet colored leather has been dyed black, and has been heavily hand tooled with designs on the front of the holster and flap. Whether this one was dyed black when the Army left the brown boot behind after Korea, or some GI took it home as a souvenir after WWII, it is one amazing looking holster!
