This is a US Model 1916 holster made for the Colt Model 1911A1 pistol used during World War II. This russet leather holster is in fair, issued condition. It was manufactured by TEXTAN, the Texas Tanning & Manufacturing Company of Youkam, Texas. For whatever reasons, TEXTAN holsters that were made in 1942 and 1945 were not dated, only the holsters manufactured in 1944 by this company were dated. They are not listed as a contractor for the year of 1943. All stitching, rivets and closure stud are extremely tight and secure to the holster. The eyelet at the toe of the holster is present, but does not have the leather "tie down" that came with the holster. The brass rivets, eyelet and closure stud all have some verdigris showing. The bail that is used to attach the holster to a web belt looks to be a fabricated replacement. The flap is embossed with a US within an oval. The interior of the holster shows moderate wear, while the exterior shows substantial use. This is a good example of a well used US M1916 holster used during WWII.
