UCV Captain John Thomas George Grouping

This is a small grouping of United Confederate Veteran Captain J. T. George. John Thomas George was born on 28 August, 1847 in Graves County, Kentucky. He enlisted at the ago of 16 in Company C, 7th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment, Confederate States Army in 1863. Private George served with the 7th Tennessee until his capture on 15 November, 1864 at Johnsonville, Tennessee. He was confined at Camp Morton, Indiana on 20 November, 1864 and was released on 16 June, 1865 when he took his oath of allegiance. George survived the war, taking up residence in Mayfield, Kentucky. He became a member of the United Confederate Veterans, and was elected as a Captain of the UCV unit. John Thomas George died on 20 September, 1929 in Mayfield Kentucky and is buried there. A cabinet card image of John Thomas George shown wearing his UCV Captain's uniform is included in the grouping. He is shown in a bust pose wearing a jacket, vest, white shirt and tie. The rank of a Captain can be seen on his collar. The buttons on his jacket look military, but you can't make out the face of them. Pinned on the right side of his jacket is a Southern Cross of Honor. Written in cursive black ink along the bottom border of the image is Capt J. T. George/Mayfield Ky. Also included in the group is a Forrest Cavalry Corps badge. The badge, made by the Schwaab S & S Co, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a three piece badge. The top bar has an a likeness of Robert E. Lee that is flanked by the Confederate 3rd National Flag on the left and a Confederate battle flag on the right. Below the image of Lee is the word MEMBER. The center bar has the raised words of FORREST/CAVALRY/CORPS with blue enamel paint. There are a couple of spots where the painted has flaked off. The bottom section is a round piece with a silver medallion having a likeness of Nathan Bedford Forrest. Written in an arc above the image is GENERAL N.B. FORREST. With the exception of the missing blue enamel paint this badge is in very good condition. A short biography of Captain George and a print out from the Civil War Database comes with the grouping, all inside a displayable riker case. If you collect United Confederate Veteran memorabilia this will make a great addition.
