This is a .38-40 caliber centerfire cartridge from the early 1900's. The brass cased cartridge is head stamped with W.C. CO./.38-40. This was the stamp for the Western Cartridge Company. The case length is 1.315" with a projectile diameter of .401", with an overall length of 1.609". The projectile, a flat nose, has an aged, light gray patina to it. The brass case has a beautiful bronze patina. The primer has been struck on the cartridge, indicating this one misfired. Still, it's a nice little display piece.
