Item #: WR511

This is a pair of US Army wool puttees from the World War I period. These putties both measure 96" in length and are approximately 4" wide. The cloth ties measure 32" in length and are 1/2" wide. All stitching on each is very tight and unbroken. These long pieces of wool were used to cover the lower part of the leg, from the ankle to the knee. They served a dual purpose, to provide support and a limited amount of protection. These were worn by both mounted and dismounted soldiers, until the M1911 leather puttee was issued to mounted forces. This set is in very good, unissued condition, and would make a great addition to your WWI Infantry display.
