This is a US Model of 1916 bacon or "meat can" used during World War I. The 1916 was an improved version of the 1910 bacon can. It is made of stamped tinned iron with rounded corners and no seams. The top of the can was held in place by friction, and had no hinges. The 1916 can has the same dimensions as the 1910 can, and can be used to store the condiment can when they weren't being used. A change in the US Army rations during WWI, the bacon can was no longer necessary. This one is in very good condition, with no major dents or damage. It is clearly stamped on the top MODEL OF 1916.
