This is an early Indian Wars enlisted five button sack coat. The light wool material still has a dark blue appearance, showing very little fading. There are several repairs to the coat, at the bottom coat button, on the left side of the collar, the shoulder seam on the left arm, a small one on the left sleeve above the cuff and a small one in the center of the back. The larger repairs were performed with machine stitching, and the two small holes used hand stitched patches to repair them. There is one moth hole on the right sleeve. All five front buttons and four cuff buttons are securely sewn on. All the buttons have a Scovill back mark except the top front button. It carries a Horstmann back mark. The stitching is still very tight and unbroken on the coat. There are no outer pocket, just one inner sewn on the bottom left side. For the age this sack coat is in very good condition. If you collect Indian Wars period items, this early sack coat will go along way in making your collection really stand out.
