This is a US Model 1910 Squad Leaders pouch used during World War I. The pouch measures 8 1/4" wide and 5 1/4" tall. This pouch is in unissued, excellent condition. It is marked marked and dated with an ink stamp on the back, just under the extended canvas strap. The ink stamp is clear and reads H&P/7-18. The pouch has no stains, tears, rips or any other defects. These were used to carry whatever the squad leader deemed necessary or vital to the unit. He could carry ammunition, spare parts for the squad's weapons, cleaning kits and materials, or anything else that he choose. The pouch could be worn on the haversack, and hung down below the meat can pouch. It could also be worn on the cartridge or pistol belt. Period pictures show a couple of instances where the squad leaders pouch was worn on the cartridge belt, with the first aid pouch worn directly above it. This one will make a great addition to your AEF doughboy display.
