This is a US Special Forces 5th Group patch with the Special Forces crest sewn on it. This patch is an example of an in country made patch during the Vietnam war period. It measure 2 1/2" wide and 3 1/8" high. The flash is outlined in black, not the usual white, with the four yellow and three red stripes of the 5th group running from the top left to the bottom right corner of the flash. Sewn in the center of the flash is the Special Forces crest with the motto DE OPPRESSO LIBER, to Free the Oppressed. The colors of the flash are still vivid, and contrast well with the green backing of the flash. This patch is to big to have been worn on a beret, but more likely was worn on a boonie hat or breast pocket. The patch is slightly stained in a couple of spots of the crest. This little piece will look great in any Vietnam display.
