This is a US Model 1910 hand axe and carrier used during World War II. The Model 1910 hand axe, or hatchet, was used during WWI and again during WWII. The ones produced for use in WWI were only marked with the US mark on the head and haft. The M1910's made for use during WWII had the head stamped with US, maker and the date. The ones used during WWI were not painted, while the ones used during WWII have been noted in all natural condition and painted olive drab. This Model 1910 Hand Axe is completely painted in olive drab. On the right side the head is stamped U.S./PLUMB 1942. The axe measures 15 1/2" in length, and the head is 5 1/2" wide. This one doesn't appear to have seen any use, yet the haft has a small piece of wood missing at the bottom end. The canvas carrier is ink stamped U.S. on the front side, and maker marked W.B. FARREL ASSOC. INC./1942 on the back side. The carrier is in very good condition with no staining, rips or holes. The wire hook is still present so this one can be attached to a cartridge or pistol belt. This WWII Model 1910 hand axe will go along way in completing your infantry display.
