This is a non excavated Georgia state seal button from the Civil War period. The button is of a two piece design with a border, measures 24mm and is back marked VAN WART SON & Co. The face of the button features an arch with the inscription CONSTITUTION over the dome. It is supported by three pillars with the words WISDOM, JUSTICE and MODERATION. A soldier holding a drawn sword stands between the left and center pillar. The majority of the gilt remains on the button, giving it a muted golden patina. The shank is still reporting for duty, and is standing tall. This button is represented as GA 5 in Albert's book on page 133. This one will make a nice addition to any Civil War button collection.
