This is a non excavated Confederate Navy button from the Civil War period. The button is of a two piece design with a rope border, measures 23mm and is back marked FIRMIN & SONS/153 STRAND/LONDON/& 13/CONDUIT St. The face of the button features crossed cannons with a fluted anchor imposed over them. The cannon barrels have no bands. The letters CSN are under the anchor, all on a lined field. All of the gilt remains on the button, it practically glows! The shank is still reporting for duty, and is standing tall. This button is represented as CS 52 in Albert's book on page 361. These buttons are pretty rare, and were used on Confederate Naval Officer uniforms. If you collect Civil War buttons you better give this one a hard look, it will make a nice addition to your Confederate button collection that never needs an upgrade!
