This is a celluloid from the 11th National United Confederate Veterans Reunion held in 1901 in Memphis, Tennessee. This is a very scarce celluloid scroll that bears the bust of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. These celluloid souvenir items were sold at many reunions, but few survive, especially in this condition, due to the fragile material they are made of. The celluloid measures approximately 2" x 3" and includes the original red ribbon. The celluloid is in near mint condition, no chips, cracks, foxing or any other problems. The colors are as vibrant as the day this celluloid was printed! Printed across the top of the scroll are the letters UCV in light blue, with 11th REUNION printed in red letters directly below. The bust of Forrest shows him in a late war image with his Lieutenant General's frock coat on. The image is centered in a laurel wreath, with a Confederate 2nd National flag below on the left, a battle flag in the center and a Confederate 1st national flag on the right. Below the flags in blue is printed MEMPHIS/MAY, 1901. The 1901 Memphis UCV reunion was the largest one ever held, with 15,000 veterans attending. The three day celebration culminated in a parade with all 15,000 veterans marching, led by their war time commanders. This 1901 reunion Forrest celluloid is in remarkable condition, and could be the center piece of any UCV collection!
