This is a Model 1851 enlisted sword belt plate from the Indian Wars period. This is probably one of the most recognizable artifacts from the Civil War and Indian Wars period. The cast brass buckle measures approximately 2 7/8" wide and 2" tall. This one has the integral cast wreath. The buckle has the wider tongue that's associated with Indian Wars use. It has some nice body curve to it, so it's certainly been worn a bunch! There are no cracks or holes in the plate. It has a beautiful even chocolate patina on the face, with the raised areas showing an even golden patina. The tongue is still present, but the keeper is missing. The plate has no bench mark. This Model 1851 came out of Idaho, so it rode the western frontier for sure, and will compliment your Indian Wars collection.
