This is a post card from the 19th National United Confederate Veterans reunion held 8 - 10 June, 1909 in Memphis, Tennessee. This was the second of three national UCV reunions held in Memphis. The card measures 5 1/4" tall and 3 1/2" wide. On the front of the colorized card are two of the most famous Confederate Cavalry commanders of the civil war, Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest and Major General Joseph Wheeler. The two are depicted in oval frames with gold gilt opposite each other. Above the two generals are two Confederate battle flags shown fluttering in the wind. A laurel branch is between the commanders above and below their images. The face of the card is immaculate, the colors are bright, the images vivid and there are no mars or blemishes anywhere. The corners of the card are perfectly straight. The reverse of the card is set up like the post cards introduced by the British in 1902. The left side of the card was meant to leave a message and the right side was for the address of the recipient. Written in cursive pencil on the left is "Here with Karl & Fred must leave here tonight" and signed Arch. The mailing address is Miss Nola Neulon/Livermore/Ky. In the upper right hand corner is a 1 cent Benjamin Franklin stamp with a cancellation stamp over it. The post mark is from Memphis, Tenn. and stamped 8 June 4pm 1909. This 1909 UCV post card with the Wizard of the saddle and Fightin' Joe will stand out in any UCV collection!
