Civil War False Embroidered Infantry Officer Hat Badge
Item #: WR663

This is a false embroidered US Infantry officer's insignia adopted in 1851. The horn was chosen to represent the Infantry branch and was to be worn on the officer's forage cap. This horn measures 1 7/8" across and 1" at the highest point. There are two wires soldered to the back of the insignia to secure it to the hat. The regimental number of the officer's unit would be worn with the horn. The outbreak of the Civil War saw several variations to the 1851 horn. This one has an aged patina, but doesn't look to have ever been on a hat. It displays well on it's own, but would really look cool next to a Civil War period image of a soldier wearing one!
