This is a rare United Confederate Veterans souvenir made for the 1901 National Reunion held in Memphis, Tennessee. The brooch style souvenir appears to be made of pewter and has an early war celluloid image of Forrest in the center. The image is very clear and in excellent condition. In an arc at the bottom of the image are the words GEN. N.B. FORREST in white letters. The brooch is 1 1/2" tall and 1 1/2" at the widest point. The original stick pin is securely mounted on the reverse side. In raised lettering on the reverse it reads "COMPLIMENTS OF/VAN VLEET MANSFIELD/DRUG CO./MEMPHIS'. The Van Vleet Mansfield Drug Company was established in Memphis in 1895. The company remained in business until 1929, when they merged with McKesson-Robbins. The Van Vleet Mansfield drug company manufactured several souvenir items for the UCV reunions held in Memphis, but this is one of the rarest ones out there.
