This is an unused sheet of patriotic stationary from the Civil War period. It measures 5" wide and 8" high. This sheet depicts a battle scene with the two sides coming together in a bayonet charge. Since letter writing was the only inexpensive and most common means of communicating, correspondents during the war took great pride in not only their handwriting, but their feelings which could be expressed by using patriotic stationary. There are large numbers of various types of designs based directly on the large numbers of patriotic envelopes of matching types. In many cases, the designs were done in very fine lithography and are printed in many colors or in black engraving on either lined or plain paper. In some cases, regiments and other military units monogrammed their own stationary for the sake of individuality. This unused patriotic letter sheet is in very good condition. It has no tears, stains or any other damage. It would look great in a personal effects or camp display.
