This is a US Fourth Army patch from the World War II period. The patch measures 2 7/8" wide and 2 7/8" high. The patch is a canted square with a white four leaf clover on a red back ground with an olive drab border. The Fourth Army was first established on 9 August, 1932 as an inactive unit. It was activated on 1 October, 1933 and headquartered at the Presidio of San Francisco, California. The Fourth Army remained in the US during WWII, having responsibility for defense of the West Coast and training tactical units to operate in combat. Fourth Army operated "Tigerland" during the 1960's at Ft Polk, Louisiana. In July of 1971 the Fourth Army was consolidated with the Fifth Army at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. It was reactivated in 1984and was based at Fort Sheridan, Illinois until 1991, when it was once again deactivated. The one piece patch is all machine sewn. There is no moth damage on the patch at all. I do not believe this patch has ever been sewn on a uniform. If you have a patch collection your gonna need one of these to complete it.
