This is an air crew survival knife made by Ontario with leather scabbard from the Vietnam era. The knife is maker marked, with the pommel cap being stamped ONTARIO/1-1973 on one of the flats. The knife has an overall length of 9 1/2", with a blade length of 5". This knife was designed to be used air crews as a survival knife, fighting knife or utility knife. The clip point style blade, cross guard and pommel are all parkerized, with the pommel and cross guard being painted black at some point. The grip is made of sectioned leather and have also been painted black. The leather scabbard is not the correct one these survival knives were issued with. However, it is in very good condition. It has been provisioned with slits so that it can be worn on a belt. The scabbard tip has no metal guard to prevent the knife from coming through. There is a partial name on the reverse of the scabbard WILLIAM is the first name, can't make out the last name though. This is a nice example of a Vietnam era survival knife with leather scabbard that will compliment any Vietnam collection.
