This is a set of fourteen excavated Union General Service buttons that came into the shop recently. Thirteen of the buttons are coat size, one is a cuff or kepi size. Most of the buttons have a back mark that is no longer legible, a couple that appear to never have had a back mark, and one or two that are legible. Of the legible ,coat buttons, there are two WATERBURY BURRON CO., two SCOVILL MFG CO. and one EXTRA QUALITY. The cuff button is another SCOVILL MFG CO. marked button. They are of two piece construction and have shanks, with the majority of them bent or missing. Some of the buttons have a push in the back, front or other damage. All the coat size buttons have achieved an absolutely beautiful chocolate brown patina. The cuff button is a little lighter in appearance. Unfortunately I have no idea where the buttons were recovered from. This button set comes with a display case, but the glass is broken in the corner. They still display well and would make a great start for the new collector in the family.
