This is an NSDAP banner from the World War II period. This one is a very large size, measuring 4' high and 18' wide. It is constructed of a single panel of red cotton fabric. A white disc with a black canted swastika is sewn in the center of the red field. This flag is two sided and has a sleeve sewn on each end. This flag was designed to be mounted on the outside of a building. The colors of the flag remain very vibrant, with the red field showing no discoloration or fading. There is some staining on the flag on both side. The white field of the swastika shows no staining on either side. There are no major rips or tears in the banner, but there are a few small holes scattered around, and a small section along the edge that is torn. The small amount of damage is all in the red field. On one end of the banner are two holes in the sleeve, the other end has one hole. I can only assume these were where the banner was attached to a building. These flags were flown outside buildings throughout Germany to promote the National Socialistische Deutsche Arbeiter Party (NSDAP) founded in 1919. These made prized souvenirs for the allied soldiers, and this one most likely made it's way back to the states in some GI's duffel bag after the war. If you have the wall space, this banner still has some nice display power!
