This is a pair of Q-1 shoe inserts used by US Army Air Force flight crews during World War II. The Q-1 shoe insert was a part of the electrically heated flight suits worn by US aircrews to stay warm when flying in unpressurized or unheated aircraft. These were no creature comforts, but necessary for survival when flying in high altitude bombers, as the crews were subjected to temperatures of -20 degrees or colder. This type of insert snapped onto the electrically heated flight pants and were worn over leather boots or inside the leather and sheepskin flight boots. This pair was manufactured for the Fox Chase Knitting Mills, Inc. by the I. Miller Parachute Division. This pair appears to be unissued, and has no tears, rips or stains. All markings and labels are very legible and unmarred. This pair would really help out your WWII US bomber crew display or collection.
