This is a Model 1860 Colt Army cap and ball revolver. The serial number 34737 puts this one in the production year of 1862. The 8" barrel has very good rifling and a clean bore. The single line ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA address is a little worn, but still visible. The Colt patent mark is still very visible. The cylinder scene is completely gone, but you can still out the serial number of 34737. The sub inspectors stamp of G is found on the cylinder and the letter S on the trigger guard. The serial numbers are legible and match, with the exception of the wedge, it is numbered 38584. The gun has a mixed steel gray patina with patches of the original bluing showing, mostly in the recessed areas. The mechanics of this old Colt work perfectly. The walnut grips retain the majority of the original varnish. The usual small bumps and dings can be seen on the sides of the grips. They fit the gun like a glove, and have no repairs. This is a solid gun that has some great eye appeal. It came with a Colt's Patent bullet mold, and it will accompany the gun to it's new owner. The Model 1860 Colt Army revolver was the work horse sidearm for the Union Cavalry, and this one will compliment any Civil War collection.
