WWII US Ninth Army Patch

This is a US Ninth Army patch from the World War II period. The patch measures 2 7/16" at the widest point 2 1/2" at the highest point. The patch is a nonagon shape with a white letter A centered in a canted Maltese cross on a red background. The shape of the patch represent the numerical designation of the army, the letter A designates Army level. The colors of the patch represent distinguishing flags for Armies. The Ninth Army was activated on 15 April, 1944, the patch was approved on 21 September, 1944. The Ninth Army, commanded initially by LTG William H. Simpson, was credited with the Northern France, Ardennes-Alsace and the Rhineland campaigns. The one piece patch is all machine sewn. There is no moth damage on the patch. This patch has never been on a uniform. If you collect WWII US patches you gotta have one of these.
