WWII Japanese Clerical Stamp Set from the Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan
Item #: WR1344
This is a two piece wood block clerical stamp set used during World War II at the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan. The Yokosuka Naval Base became one of the main arsenals of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The ship yards there built battleships and aircraft carriers, and the base became home to the Yokosuka Naval Air Technical Arsenal. Here major aircraft were designed for naval use. This two piece stamp set was used at the air arsenal during the war to mark documents. The single line block reads "Yokosuka Naval Air Div". The larger, three line block reads "This document good/for date indicated/year month day". The single line block measures 1 3/4" wide and 2 1/2" high. The three line block measures 2 3/4" wide and 1 7/16" high. This is something you don't run across everyday, and is ideal for the Japanese document collector.
