This is a US Vietnam era M1 helmet and liner. The shell was manufactured by the McCord Radiator company, the liner was made by Firestone. The heat stamp of 522 puts this one being manufactured during the WWII period. The helmet has a dark appearance on the exterior. It has been repainted to look like a veteran of WWII. The inside of the helmet is painted a light green from the Vietnam era. The exterior has been textured to give it a fresh appearance. The helmet shell is dent free. There are a number of stress cracks along the rear of the shell. The stainless steel band around the rim retains the majority of the paint. The rim has a rear seam stainless steel band. The chin strap bails are swivel. The chin straps are missing. The liner is from the post WWII era. The makers stamp of Firestone is visible in the inside top of the liner, along with the number 30. The liner shows at least two coats of paint on the exterior. The liner is not intact, missing the neck band. The suspension cloth is cotton and is very dirty. Three of the mounting points for the suspension have pulled loose from the ring. The sweatband is complete and shows very heavy staining from wear. The entire suspension system shows heavy use. There are no garters for a chin strap. This liner never had A yokes installed, as it was not intended for airborne use. This is an example of an M1 combat helmet from WWII that was upgraded through the following years and saw service all the way into the 1980's, when it was replaced by the Kevlar helmet.
