This is a US Army Women's Army Corps field overcoat used during World War II. These overcoats were made of khaki cotton poplin and were designed to be used with a removable liner and hood. This one is in fair, heavily used condition. There is a small white tag sewn in the collar area showing this to be a size 12R. The quartermaster tag is sewn on the inside of an inner pocket. It reads, "Overcoats, Field, Women's", was manufactured by UNIVERSAL SPORTSWEAR, Inc. and is dated May 31, 1943. It came through the Philadelphia Quarter Master Depot. It is double breasted and uses four buttons to close the front of the coat. All of the buttons on the coat are plastic. The two pockets are slanted instead of parallel to the hem. There are a couple of small frayed areas and an overall faded and stained look to the entire outer part of the coat. There are two of the plastic buttons missing, one on the left sleeve cuff, the other is on the back of the coat at the flap opening. This is a rarer winter garment used by the Women's Army Corps during World War II.
