This is a riker case with four Civil War bullets, a depiction of a Confederate sniper, an image of Major General Patrick Cleburne, and a summary of his military career. Cleburne was born in County Cork, Ireland on 16 March, 1828 to a doctor and his wife. His mother died when he was 18 months old, and he was an orphan at age 15. Cleburne served in the British Army as a Corporal in the 41st Regiment of Foot. After three years of service, Cleburne bought his discharge and immigrated to the United States with his two brothers and sister. He settled in Arkansas and became a pharmacist. The community he lived in accepted him warmly, so when the Civil War broke out he remained loyal to them. Patrick Cleburne proved to be a natural leader of men, as well as a sound tactician. His ability to effectively use terrain to his advantage, hold ground when others failed to do so, and anticipating and foiling the enemies movements earned him praise from leaders such as Robert E Lee, and earned him the nickname, "Stonewall of the West". He commanded troops at the Battles of Shiloh, Stones River, Chickamauga, Ringgold Gap, Chattanooga, Pickett's Mill, the Atlanta Campaign and Franklin. It was at the Battle of Franklin that Cleburne was killed, once again leading his men in an attack against overwhelming odds. The four bullets, one a shot .58 caliber Minie bullet recovered at Shiloh, Tennessee, one a .69 caliber round ball recovered at Stones River, Tennessee, one a .58 caliber Minie bullet recovered at Chickamauga, Georgia and another .58 caliber Minie bullet recovered at Franklin, Tennessee. The parchment style paper has been labeled "Major General Patrick Cleburne CSA", along with the identification of each bullet, the dates of Cleburne's birth and death and the battles he fought in. The case measures 12 1/4" wide and 8 1/4" high. It has been provisioned on the back to hang from two nails or screws. This will make an inexpensive birthday or Christmas present for the Civil War collector in the family.
