This is an illustrated page from the article printed by Harper's Weekly covering Rear Admiral Samuel F. DuPont. DuPont was a career Navy man, serving from 1815 to 1865. He served with distinction during the Mexican American war, capturing the city of San Diego. He was named the commander of the California Naval blockade during the Mexican War, and played a significant role in making the naval blockade successful during the Civil War. The illustration measures 9 1/2" wide and 11" tall. The one page section of the article is mounted on a piece of cardboard and is protected by shrink wrap. This one page from the Harper's Weekly looks just the way it did when it was printed 156 years ago. There are no smudges, stains, rips, tears, creases or folds on the page. The black and white illustration shows DuPont in his Rear Admiral's uniform, holding his saber in his right hand. If you collect Civil War documents this piece will fit right in!
