This is a US Model 1956 First Aid Pouch/Compass pouch from the Vietnam era. The cotton pouch is in used but good condition. These replaced the M1942 First Aid Pouch that contained a Carlisle bandage. This one could be used to carry the field dressing each individual was issued or a Lensatic compass. They were worn on the web gear, usually on the left suspender. This was done to provide a uniform appearance, accessibility, and since most soldiers are right hand dominate, it did not interfere with weapons firing. The pouch has no damage but does show honest use. The US stamp on the front is faded but legible. The Alice clip on the back is present and functional. The ink stamp on the inside of the flap is legible, and shows the markings for either first aid or compass, NSN, and is dated 1961. This will go great in an early Vietnam display.
