Smith & Wesson #1 Revolver made by Rollin White

This is a Smith and Wesson Model #1 .22 caliber revolver made under contract by the Rollin White Arms Company of Lowell, Massachusetts. Approximately 4300 of these revolvers were manufactured by the Rollin White Arms Company between 1861 and 1864 . This small pocket revolver is serial # 9464. The inside of the left grip has a number 4 stamped in it. This little pocket pistol measures 7" in overall length, with a barrel length of 3". The top of the barrel is stamped Made for Smith and Wesson by Rollin White, Arms Co. Lowell, Mass. The sights are fixed. This 7 shot revolver has a spur trigger. The non fluted cylinder is stamped "PATENTED APRIL 3" and that's all that is still visible. The barrel, cylinder, cylinder pin and hammer are silver plated, with the brass frame and back strap showing a beautiful golden patina. All silver plated parts display a dull silver patina. The rosewood grips are in very good condition with no cracks. The mechanics of this little firearm operate normally. There are numerous Civil War period images with officers of both sides holding these firearms. This one will add to any Civil War pistol collection. If you are a Smith & Wesson collector, you gotta have one of these to complete your collection!
