This is a matching wood handled knife and fork mess set. The knife is 8 3/4"" in length and has no trademark on the blade. The fork is 7" in length and has three tines. Both pieces are in remarkable condition for the age. Until 1874 the government did not issue eating utensils and it was the responsibility of each soldier to procure his own. This style seems to be the most common encountered for the Civil War and early Indian Wars period. They are important pieces of everyday life for the soldier in the field. These will round out your camp scene or flat ware collection. They are being sold as a set.
