WWI Trench Art Shell Case

This is a brass shell case for a French 75mm field gun made into trench art. The case is 13" tall and 3 3/8" across the base. The brass has achieved a beautiful medium chocolate patina. The shell case has a 4 1/2" fluted section just above the base. Above the fluted section is a 1 1/2" wide section of alternating triangular shapes, one upright and plain, the next inverted and having a stippled design. Above this is a 1" band with sawtooth style lettering and numbers. It has the numbers 14a19 followed by the inscription "Lornen 17 der Soldats russes". Above the inscription is the typical floral design on a stippled field, culminating in a decorative petal style at the shell opening. I believe that the inscription refers to the two Russian brigades that fought with the French Army from 1916 to 1918. The French 75mm field gun provided the lions share of artillery support for the allies during WWI. If you collect trench art from WWI this might be the one piece you are missing!
