This is a Bauer & Black Corrosive Sublimate Gauze packet used by the US Army during World War I. The wax paper box contains one yard of sublimate gauze, also known as mercuric chloride, and was used as an antiseptic during the war. The box has never been opened and remains well marked. It is dated May, 1917. These were not carried in the first aid pouches, but were used by medics on the line and medical personnel in aid stations and field hospitals. These are very hard to find, and will add to your WWI medical display greatly!
