Tinned Iron Plate
Item #: WR796

This is a tinned iron plate that was possibly part of an Army field kitchen during the World War I period. The plate measures 8 1/2" across with a raised rim that is 3/4" high. It is not part of the 1910 mess kit for the individual soldier, but more of a piece of cookware that would have been found in a field kitchen. There is a pull ring on the reverse of the plate. There is also a seven digit number stamped into the back of the plate, 1982738, a possible service number. It could be a part number for the plate itself I guess, not really sure what it is. Most of the tinning remains on the iron plate, but there are some areas of rust showing, more on the back of the plate. It's an unusual piece for sure!
